Sarah Jessica Parker is said to be "livid" and "heartbroken" following the sexual assault allegations levelled against her Sex and the City co-star Chris Noth.

The actress, 56, is "fiercely protective" of her iconic character Carrie Bradshaw's legacy and is reportedly furious the show's reputation has been dragged through the mud due to Noth's allegations, US Weekly claims.

"She is fiercely protective of Carrie Bradshaw and livid that she and everyone else at the show has been put into this position," the insider told the publication.

"It is not about the money, but rather her legacy. Carrie was all about helping women and now, under her watch, women are saying that they have been hurt."

The source added Parker "feels like there has been two deaths" after Noth's character Mr Big died in the premiere episode of the SATC spin-off series And Just Like That.

It is understood Parker had "no idea" about the allegations before they were made public and feels responsible for the show's reputation.

"She takes the power of being Carrie Bradshaw very seriously. With great power comes great responsibility and although SJP knows this is about him, not her, she feels like she has let everyone down," the source said.

Multiple women have come forward to accuse Noth of sexual assault in the weeks after the SATC reboot aired.

Four separate women have alleged Noth assaulted them between 2002 and 2015, claims Noth has since branded as "categorically false" in a statement.

"The accusations against me made by individuals I met years, even decades, ago are categorically false," Noth said.

"These stories could've been from 30 years ago or 30 days ago — no always means no — that is a line I did not cross.

"The encounters were consensual. It's difficult not to question the timing of these stories coming out. I don't know for certain why they are surfacing now, but I do know this: I did not assault these women."

Noth's co-stars in Sex and The City and the reboot And Just Like That — Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristen Davis — also jointly voiced their support for his accusers in the days following the allegations.
