Sammy Davis Jr fell victim to an Oscars envelope mix-up in 1964: See his response!
History repeats!
Decades before La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz was left bewildered at the Oscars podium, presenter Sammy Davis Jr suffered his own Academy Awards envelope snafu.
While presenting the awards for Scoring of Music and Music Score in 1964, Sammy realised that the winner listed on his card wasn't among the nominees he'd just listed.
"They gave me the wrong envelope," the Rat Pack crooner told the crowd. "Wait ’til the NAACP hears about this."
After being handed the correct envelope, he slipped on a pair of reading glasses before continuing.
"I ain't going to make no mistake this time, baby," he joked.
At this year's Oscars, presenter Warren Beatty was handed the incorrect envelope by a PriceWaterhouseCooper accountant, which listed "Emma Stone, La La Land" as the Best Actress winner.
This prompted co-presenter Faye Dunaway to incorrectly announce La La Land as the Best Picture winner, while Moonlight had actually won the award.
