Mistake that’s haunted Ryan Gosling’s career for 10 years finally fixed
Two years after Ryan Gosling admitted that his pose on the official poster for La La Land “haunts him”, Lionsgate unveiled a new one for the film’s 10th anniversary.
The film studio captioned an Instagram post confirming they’d made “a minor adjustment” to the poster featuring Gosling, 45, and La La Land co-star Emma Stone, 37.

The original poster for the Oscar-winning film featured a shot of Gosling and Stone taken mid-dance for the song ‘A Lovely Night’.
In it, both actors have their arms outstretched; Stone sporting a perfectly extended hand, while Gosling tilted his down.
It’s that single move that’s followed Gosling around for the past decade of his career.
Gosling told The Wall Street Journal in May 2024, that his role as Sebastian Wilder in La La Land was the one he’d like to redo.

“There’s a moment that haunts me where we’re dancing, Emma and I,” Gosling explained.
“I didn’t know this would become the poster for the movie, but I thought we were supposed to have our hands up and I thought it’d be cool to put my hand [flat].”
He jokingly said he regretted the move saying it “killed the energy that way”. “I call it La La Hand,” he laughed.
Lionsgate’s newly released poster altered Gosling’s now infamous flat hand and repositioned it.
The change didn’t go unnoticed by fans, with tens of thousands of them flocking to the comment section to have their say.
“Oh my god someone tell Ryan right now,” one wrote.
Another jokingly demanded: “Reverse the La La Hand IMMEDIATELY.”
“RIP LA LA HAND (2016-2026). You will be missed (but Ryan will be so happy),” a third said.

Some read even more profound meaning into the original hand pose, noting: “I thought the hand was cool cause it show they weren’t compatible in the end.”
While we’re yet to hear what Gosling thinks about the refresh of the poster, Lionsgate’s head of worldwide marketing Justin Manfredi said the actor “approved” the changed poster ahead of time.
