What the hell is going on between Mindy Kaling and B. J. Novak?
When B.J. Novak presented Mindy Kaling with her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in February 2025, fans of the duo were left with more questions than answers.
In his speech, Novak was sure to highlight – in between jokes – Kaling as "a brilliant and wildly successful showrunner, an incredible mother of three, a deep and caring daughter, and a friend and mentor to so many".
Kaling, of course, addressed Novak in her acceptance speech, calling him "such an important and integral part of my family that sometimes I forget the reason that I know him is because we work together professionally."

Kaling and Novak first met in 2004, which was during their time on the United States' version of The Office, a show where their characters, co-workers Kelly and Ryan, embarked on an on-off romance.
In a case of life imitating art, Kaling and Novak also embarked on a years-long on-off romantic relationship in real life, before deciding to be friends.
And they have been, best friends in fact, for decades.
Novak actually referenced this in 2023 when he, as usual, was presenting Kaling with an award...

"We were in love with each other, and we were reckless idiots, and the two of us would argue about all of these things forever," Novak said at the Producers Guild Awards in 2023, when he presented Kaling with the Normal Lear Achievement Award.
"He's remained my closest friend throughout my entire career," Kaling, pictured here at the Oscars in 2020 with Novak, said in her acceptance speech.
"He's seen all the ups and downs, and it just means the world to me."
Their best friendship may be well documented, but that hasn't stopped fans from speculating there actually is something more between them in private...

"My feeling is that, until I speak to my daughter about that, I'm not going to talk to anyone else about it," she told the New York Times in 2019.
At the time, she was mother to daughter Swati, who is now seven years old.
She has since welcomed son Spencer, who is now four years old, and Anne, who was quietly born in February 2024.
There is one role, however, that Kaling has not been shy about Novak holding.

"He's the godfather to my daughter. I see him every week. It isn't the thing that people sometimes think it is. He's really part of my family now, which is great. Even though that's less of a sexy characterisation of our relationship, I think it's a deeper and a closer one," she told CBS in 2019.
"We do spend a lot of time together and it's a great blessing in my life."
She reiterated this to Marie Claire in 2022, saying, "He's the godparent to both my kids – and they have such a great relationship – and so far [the speculation hasn't] affected my happiness at all, it hasn't affected my kids or BJ. It doesn't bother me. If that's what is going to be titillating to people, I'll take it."

The year was 2004, and Destiny's Child's Kelly Rowland had scored a solo gig... featuring in Nelly's Dilemma song and, subsequently, the hit's music video.
But there's one scene from the music video that haunts Rowland to this day...

In the music video, Rowland is seen texting Nelly, but when the camera pans to what's actually on her phone... it appears she is trying to use Microsoft Excel to reach him.

"They made me look nuts," Rowland said of the gaffe in March 2024.

When asked if anyone on set noticed or said anything about the gaffe, Rowland said, "No, and I'm actually mad at them that they didn't because they made me look nuts."

She's previously said she had no idea what Microsoft Excel was.

Who is the famous friend that ditched Reese Witherspoon?
Reese Witherspoon once lost a famous friend after making a clunky faux pas at an awards ceremony and she's still "haunted" by it, she revealed in January 2025.
The Legally Blonde star recalled a time she had been asked by a friend to give a speech at an award ceremony but got the brief terribly wrong.
"So this friend of mine, who I didn't really know that well but she was a very serious, proper actress, she asked me to give her an award," Witherspoon told People.
"But I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and I roasted her."
Witherspoon explained that she got the tone completely wrong at the event, which was "classy" and "elegant", and cracked a joke that didn't land – especially not with her friend.
"I'm still embarrassed about it," Witherspoon said, noting the actress who she did not name was not impressed and that saw the end of their friendship.
