Peter Helliar has been targeted in a Facebook scam

Peter Helliar is the latest celeb victim of a Facebook hoax.

On Wednesday afternoon, the comedian shared to Instagram a screenshot of a news article - a very fake one - with the headline, "Peter Helliar Breaks His Silence And Reveals How He Overcame His ED."

The opening paragraph reads, "Peter Helliar, 62, has always been seen as a straight talker who doesn't mind being honest about how things are. However, his latest comments have made the sponsors go nuts. Peter caused havoc last week when he revealed his new erectile dysfunction fix on The Project".

Helliar wanted to clear a few of these comments up, and addressed them in his Instagram post, and on Twitter.

"FYI… I'm the latest FB hoax revolving around articles surrounding erectile dysfunction," he captioned the screenshot. "This is a hoax! (I am actually 63 and my penis has been described by my wife as 'mostly workable' so… #hoax #ED #TV."

(For the record, Helliar is 43. Not 62 or 63.)

The article was authored by Ryan Hasman -- a name associated with many debunked news articles.

Helliar is certainly not the only Australian household name linked to fake news.

Three months ago, TODAY's Georgie Gardner gave her response to having her face used in a  hoax Facebook advertisement in a column for 9Honey.

She revealed a friend's mother saw the ad and, due to their social connection, handed over her credit card details to the scam.

Deborah Knight, Celeste Barber, and Shelley Craft have also been victims of these type of hoaxes.
