Outer Banks couple Madelyn Cline and Chase Stokes split up

Outer Banks co-stars Madelyn Cline and Chase Stokes have reportedly called it quits after dating for 18 months.

Cline, 23, and Stokes, 29, met on the set of the Netflix series but have broken up after celebrating their one-year anniversary in April, according to People.

A source told the US publication the couple broke up a few months ago and "are no longer together" after trying to work things out privately.

"They are definitely broken up," an insider said.

The co-stars officially confirmed their relationship in June 2020 after Stokes shared a series of photos of the pair on Instagram, captioning the post: "cats outta the bag".

Cline, who plays Sarah Cameron in the popular series, commented on the image with: "I've fallen and I can't get up."

The actress also revealed candid details about her romance with Stokes to Entertainment Tonight, describing her on-screen colleague as her "favourite person".

"It's really cool. Love is tight," she said. "It's cool to share this experience with your favorite people and also your favorite person. … I feel very happy."

Rumours of an off-screen romance developing between Cline and Stokes first sparked after the couple revealed they were quarantining together in April 2020, at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

"We're all staying together, quarantining together," Stokes told People at the time.

Cline was reportedly spotted dancing with 13 Reasons Why star Ross Butler by TMZ during a night out in Milan last month, prompting speculation she was no longer dating co-star Stokes.

Butler later told the publication the pair were "just friends".

Cline and Stokes have been quiet on social media in recent weeks, with the last post featuring the pair together shared in late September.

Outer Banks was the most-watched teen drama in the US on Netflix in August, with the series described by Stokes as "a mix between The Goonies and The O.C."
