Actor Orson Bean dead at 91 after being struck and killed by a car

Veteran actor Orson Bean has died after being struck and killed by a car in Venice, Los Angeles on Friday, February 7. He was 91.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Bean was allegedly jaywalking at around 7pm on his way to the theatre, where his wife was working, and was clipped by one vehicle and then struck by the second. He reportedly died at the scene.

"The car coming westbound did not see him and clipped him and he went down," Los Angeles Police Department Captain Brian Wendling told ABC's Eyewitness News. "A second vehicle was coming up, was distracted by people trying to slow him down and then looked up and then a second traffic collision occurred and that one was fatal."

Bean began his career in the entertainment industry in the 1950s, where he frequently appeared on The Tonight Show with Jack Paar and Johnny Carson. He was a regular guest on the game show To Tell The Truth and had guest roles on many TV shows including 7th Heaven, How I Met Your Mother and Modern Family.

From 2009 until 2012, Bean had a recurring role in the series Desperate Housewives.

In 2018, he starred in the film The Equalizer 2, in which he played an elderly survivor of the Holocaust. His most recent role was in a 2018 episode of the America Ferrera show Superstore.

Bean leaves behind his wife, The Bold and the Beautiful actress Alley Mills, 68, and his four children: Michele, Max, Susannah and Ezekiel.

He was previously married to actress Jacqueline de Sibour, with whom he had Michele. The couple divorced in 1962 and the actor went on to wed fashion designer Carolyn Maxwell, the mother of Max, Susannah and Ezekiel in 1965. They were together until 1981.

Bean wed Mills in 1993 and they remained married until his death.
