Hours after her Olympic debut, Nikki Webster's family home was full of strangers
In 2000, a 13-year-old Nikki Webster impressed millions around the globe with her performance at the Olympic Opening Ceremony in Sydney.
Now, 24 years later, a 37-year-old Webster is opening up about how that singular performance not only changed her life, but her family's too.
"It was amazing. I had press all the way through the street," Webster said on The Kyle & Jackie O Show this morning.
The Strawberry Kisses singer explained that on the eve of the Olympics, she'd had no big plans for after her performance – but the day after, everything just blew up.

"I had people interviewing me from NBC, from all around the world," she said.
"People in the front yard, back yard, and I would just go from room to room in my house."
Essentially, Webster's house the next day became the set of a press junket, with publications from all over wanting to talk to her.
"Nothing was planned the day before. As soon as I finished the Opening Ceremony, I thought, 'I'll just go home'," she recalled on radio.
"My parents got back on the train to go home and they got a call saying, 'She needs to go to a press conference'. I was like, 'What's a press conference?'"
According to Webster, her life become "madness" all throughout Sydney 2000, with organisers telling her she would now be performing at the Closing Ceremony too.

Today, Webster lives in Sydney and runs her dance studio, Dance @ Nikki Webster.
She also has two kids, Skylah, 10, and Malakai, six, the youngest of whom she recently sat down with to watch her 2000 performance for the first time.
"He was just blown away, but I kept talking all the way through it," she shared. "He's just going, 'Mum, I'm trying to watch it. Let me watch it.'"
