Nicole Kidman makes rare comments following Keith Urban divorce: ‘An enormous amount of hope’

Nicole Kidman feels like she’s “free-falling” after her divorce from Keith Urban.

Kidman, 59, shared the metaphor with British Vogue in rare remarks about her life after their split, explaining that she was wondering: “Where am I going? And what’s next?”

The Big Little Lies star filed for divorce in September 2025 after 19 years of marriage and said that at this point, she did not know what her future looked like.

“I’m like, ‘OK, I didn’t expect this, I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now’,” she said.

“You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it’s all going to be like and then it’s … not.

“You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it’s completely unknown to me right now … Strange.”

Kidman said there was a time she was “very fearful and deeply vulnerable”.

“And then at the same time [I’m] going, ‘Well, I can either really not confront it and just curl up, or I can just go forward with an enormous amount of hope’,” she said.

As far as Hollywood divorces go, Kidman and Urban’s appeared drama-free and was finalised in a little over three months, with no need to end up in court.

Kidman and Urban agreed to waive all child and spousal support rights, according to court documents obtained by People, and put in place a parenting plan for their daughters, Sunday Rose, 18, and Faith Margaret, 15.

Despite having been through divorce in the public eye before, from Tom Cruise in 2001, Kidman said it was “all new … every time!”

Almost a year on from her surprise split, Kidman was still processing.

“I’ve approached my whole life like that,” she said.

“That’s just who I am. I don’t overthink things and I’m probably not that analytical. I’m far more feeling-centred and I lead with my heart. I just go, ‘OK, what do I feel here? I’ll give it a go.’ It throws people, because I think they think I’ll be far more measured and I’m not.”

Her desire was “not to be ruled by my head”.

“I’ve always wanted to live a well-examined life, so what does that entail? Trying things, making mistakes, failing, getting back up, moving on, embracing love, staying open, keeping the heart open and the possibilities,” she said.

Kidman has also had a whirlwind year of work, with four projects being released in 2026.

She is currently starring in the Taylor Sheridan series Lioness and is preparing for the release of Practical Magic 2, alongside Sandra Bullock, in September.
