Nicola Peltz Beckham's father sues wedding planners for not returning his $225,500 deposit

Nicola Peltz Beckham's billionaire father Nelson Peltz is suing one of the three wedding planners he cycled through in preparation for his daughter's big day.

Nelson, 80, claims that wedding planners Nicole Braghin and Arianna Grijalba, of the company Plan Design Events, refused to refund him the US$159,000 (approx. $225,500) deposit he gave them when he employed them.

Braghin and Grijalba were the second planners Nelson and his wife Claudia reached out to for Nicola and husband Brooklyn Peltz Beckham's April wedding, after dropping their first celebrity planner, Preston Bailey.

In documents obtained by The Daily Mail, Nelson refers to his 28-year-old daughter as a "world-famous actress" claiming Braghin and Grijalba didn't have the "expertise" to handle the scale of her wedding.

"Nicola is a world-famous actress who has starred in blockbuster movies and television shows, including, among others, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Bates Motel and The Last Airbender," the suit begins.

"The guest list included more than five hundred people, including numerous celebrities, athletes, dignitaries and other influential individuals, who travelled from all around the globe to attend.

"The celebrity of the wedding couple combined with the anticipated attendance of many high-profile guests required that the wedding planner have the expertise and staffing to plan, coordinate and execute a wedding event of the expected calibre and complexity," it continued.

Nelson and his wife reportedly employed Braghin and Grijalba in March 2022 – apparently six weeks out from the wedding – after dropping Preston Bailey for unknown reasons. They had hoped the pair could easily pick up the task, but were evidently left unsatisfied.

The suit went on to say that the family had presented Plan Design Events with the "opportunity of a lifetime – to have their names associated with the wedding of two world-famous celebrities", but ultimately "misrepresented" themselves in what their business was capable of handling.

"'In reality, however, it later became clear that PDE viewed this is as an opportunity to take advantage of [Nelson] Peltz by making material misrepresentations on both their website and in person regarding their experience, expertise, and capability of planning the wedding," the suit reads.

Nelson ended up hiring Michelle Rago of Michelle Rago Destinations, who reportedly pulled the event off seamlessly. He claims he repeatedly asked for his deposit back from Plan Design Events, but never received it.

He also noted that because of the tight time frame in which he hired Rago, the billionaire was forced to pay the planner a "substantially higher fee than what the Rago Destinations would have charged under normal circumstances."

Braghin and Grijalba's response to the lawsuit is yet to be shared publically.
