'We are all totally bereft': Nicholas Lloyd Webber, son of famed composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, dies aged 43

Nicholas Lloyd Webber, the Grammy-nominated composer, record producer and eldest son of Andrew Lloyd Webber, died on Saturday in England after a protracted battle with gastric cancer and pneumonia. He was 43.

"His whole family is gathered together and we are all totally bereft," Andrew, 75, said in a statement to the Associated Press emailed by a representative.

"Thank you for all your thoughts during this difficult time."

Nicholas died at a hospital in the south-central English town of Basingstoke, his father said.

Andrew, the famed composer, missed the Broadway opening Thursday of his Bad Cinderella show to be at his son's side with other loved ones.

Nicholas is best known for his work on the BBC One's Love, Lies and Records, which was based on the book The Little Prince. He also worked on his father's 2021 Cinderella, earning a Grammy nod for best musical theatre album.

Nicholas is Andrew's son with his first wife, Sarah Hugill, who is also the mother of his older sister, Imogen. The senior Webber has four other children.

It was only on Friday that Andrew shared an update on his son's "ghastly" cancer battle, with the Cats composer revealing Nicholas was battling pneumonia as a result of his gastric cancer.

"I wanted to thank you first for the huge outpouring of messages of support for my son Nick, he's now been moved into a hospice and he's battling away," Andrew said on Instagram four days after announcing he would be missing Bad Cinderella's opening to be with his family.

"We're all here, and the family here has gathered around and it was the right place for us all to be I think," he said.
