Netflix calls out 'A Christmas Prince' superfans after corny holiday film becomes viral hit

Ever since Netflix dropped its original movie A Christmas Prince last month, festive-obsessed viewers swiftly added it to their annual must-watch list.

Like Love Actually, Home Alone, and dozens of Hallmark Christmas movies before it, the cliche-filled classic was an instant hit. So much so, that Netflix -- who are notoriously cagey about their streaming data -- decided to call out the superfans.

"To the 53 people who've watched A Christmas Prince every day for the past 18 days: Who hurt you?" Netflix's official account tweeted on December 11.

The film revolves around a young journalist (Kiwi actress Rose McIver) who goes undercover to spy on the Royal Family of the fake country of Aldovia with the ultimate mission of digging up secrets on a very attractive prince (Ben Lamb).

Or, as one fan put it, "A s--- Princess Diaries 2 version of How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days."

While Netflix kept the binge-watchers in question anonymous, the streaming service's snarky tweet sparked many users to question their own watching habits.

"Suddenly I am very concerned about what @netflix thinks of our Teen Titans Go viewing habits," one person tweeted.

Netflix promptly responded: "No you're fine."

Meanwhile, Netflix Canada took it one step further, changing its Twitter display name to "Netflix 'Have You Seen A Christmas Prince?' Canada."

So, is this an attempt by the streaming service to create buzz and get more people to watch yet another mediocre Christmas flick? Or are they genuinely concerned about the wellbeing of viewers who've spent more than two weeks binging the trashy movie?

Something tells us the former.
