Netflix star shares details of the night he was hit by car resulting in traumatic brain injury

Actor Clayton Conroy has shared a video to Instagram recapping what he can remember from the night he was hit by a car travelling at 100mph (160km/h).

Conroy, who is best known for the Netflix show The Gringo Hunters, is currently recovering from brain surgery after the accident left him with a traumatic brain injury and a fractured hip and shoulder.

“One night a few months ago, I was driving home from a friend’s house, and I saw lights approaching multiple lanes away. I was one exit away, thought nothing of it,” Conroy said in a new video posted to Instagram.

“Next thing I know, I’m waking up in the hospital. My mom’s staring at me, and she tells me, ‘You’ve been in an accident.’ I didn’t believe her.

“Partly because I was almost home – I thought I had gotten off the exit. But also because I saw a car a distance away with lights coming from multiple lanes over, and I couldn’t help but think, how?

“How did this happen? How could this person cross multiple lanes, coming at me so fast that it sent me into a wall, and eventually a trip to the hospital where I didn’t wake up for days?”

The incident occurred on April 19, 2026, with Conroy rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.

Since the accident, Conroy has been updating fans on social media, sharing a post two months after the incident explaining that doctor’s didn’t expect him to live.

“Summer turned out a lot different than I ever thought it would. Got hit by a guy going over 100. Had brain surgery. Was supposed to die,” he wrote.

“Spent my birthday in the hospital. Lost 20 pounds. Severed nerves in my arm and fractured bones in my leg. Still can’t walk. But I’ve had time to think about a lot.

“Just don’t take anything for granted. Oh and friends + family will get you through anything. And justice isn’t given. You have to fight for it.”

Conroy latest posts appear to show that he has since left the hospital, and is now recovering at home.
