Home Improvement child star arrested for resisting officer, 15 years after last TV gig

Former child star Jonathan Taylor Thomas was arrested in California after refusing to “cooperate” with officers, authorities report.

The Home Improvement star, 45, who played one of Tim Allen’s sons on the ’90s sitcom, was detained for one night after allegedly obstructing or resisting an executive officer during a traffic stop on Monday.

According to the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department, Thomas was a passenger in the car that was pulled over by officers.

Multiple outlets report the officers were investigating the driver for suspected DUI when Thomas allegedly got out of the vehicle after being told to remain inside.

The former child star reportedly became “uncooperative and resistant”, a spokesperson for the Malibu/Lost Hills Sherriff’s Station said.

It’s understood the former teen actor was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and for resisting an executive officer.

Multiple US outlets claim the actor was taken to the station before being released the next day. The driver was reportedly also arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Thomas was not driving the car during the time and it is not clear whether any charges were filed against the retired actor.

Thomas’ alleged arrest comes after the actor made headlines in July for reuniting with two of his Home Improvement co-stars 35 years since the sitcom first aired.

Thomas, who hasn’t had an acting gig in 15 years, was seen with co-stars Patricia Richardson, 75, and Taran Noah Smith, 42, in a rare photo shared to Instagram.

Richardson was beaming in the photo alongside her former TV sons – Thomas, who starred as middle child Randy, and Smith, who played the youngest Taylor sibling, Mark in the two-time Emmy nominated series.

Best known for playing Randy on Home Improvement for eight seasons from 1991 to 1998, and voicing young Simba in Disney’s 1994 classic The Lion King, Thomas was ’90s royalty.

After Home Improvement he starred in the festive film I’ll Be Home for Christmas and guest-starred in hit series 8 Simple Rules, Veronica Mars and Smallville between 2002 and 2005.

He then stepped away from the spotlight until 2013, when he made a surprising comeback, reuniting with TV dad Tim Allen on Last Man Standing for a three-episode arc and a stint in the director’s chair.

His last on-screen appearance was on that very show in 2015.
