As Neighbours gets set to return to screens later this year, fans have been given more details of which cast members are back in Ramsay Street.

The news comes three months after Amazon Freevee announced it was resurrecting the iconic Australian TV soap following the end of its 37-year run on-air last July.

On Tuesday, they revealed fan favourites actresses Annie Jones (plays Jane Harris), Rebekah Elmaloglou (plays Terese Willis), Georgie Stone (plays Mackenzie Hargreaves), and actor Tim Kano (plays Leo Tanaka) will reprise their roles as series regulars.

Also returning to screens but in a lesser capacity will be stalwart Ian Smith, who plays Harold Bishop. He will be back in a guest role capacity, as will April Rose Pengilly (plays Chloe Brennan), and Melissa Bell (plays Lucy Robinson).

They will join Neighbours icons Stefan Dennis, Alan Fletcher, Ryan Moloney, and Jackie Woodburne, who were already confirmed as back on board for the reboot.

The series will go back into full production in the coming months, with new episodes set to roll out from spring.

Producers today announced the series will pick up from where the finale ended rather than jumping forward or backward in the timeline.

The show – which produced nearly 9000 episodes and created Hollywood stars including Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, Liam Hemsworth and Guy Pearce, as well as singers Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Natalie Imbruglia – first announced the end of production last March.

The soap was forced to stop its record run after UK TV network Channel 5 ended its deal to air the show in the UK, which was crucial to funding production.

A tearful final episode, with plenty of cameos from old cast members, aired on July 28 to much praise from fans for how neatly the storyline was tied up.

Unfortunately, those celebrity cameos – including Kylie and Jason as still-happily married Scott and Charlene or Guy Pearce who shared a romance with Annie Jones's Jane – won't be popping up in this new series.

In Australia, the series will return to Channel 10 for first-run episodes but will be available a week later on Amazon Prime Video, which will also host the series for viewers in New Zealand and Canada.

Devotees of the soap in the UK and US will be able to watch it on Amazon Freevee.
