The internet is still recovering after a viral tweet last week revealed that Natalie Imbruglia’s hit song 'Torn' is actually a cover. According to initial reports released by NME, the Sydney native's 1997 hit single is a cover of a 1995 song by the Los Angeles band Ednaswap. Twitter user @VilinskiKonjic created the now-viral thread summing up the intense range of emotions we all felt given this news.

And as they began to process, fans ran out of faith, taking to Twitter to reveal their complete state of shock and disbelief.  "Wow just learned Torn by Natalie Imbruglia is a cover. I'm torn," wrote one fan. Added another: "I've just found out that Torn by Natalie Imbruglia is a cover and now I don't know what to believe anymore..." "Natalie Imbruglia's Torn is a cover. My life was a lie," another tweeted.

Although written by Ednaswap membersScott Cutler andAnne Preven with producer Phil Thornalley, it was first recorded in 1993 by Danish singer Lis Sørensen under the title "Brændt."

She was back in Australia for some R&R in June, looking fresh and relaxed in a sun-filled selfie.
