Modern Family star Sarah Hyland hospitalised over mystery illness

Modern Family star Sarah Hyland is back home and resting after spending several days in hospital with a mystery illness that has stumped doctors.

The 28-year old took to her Instagram stories on Monday night to reassure her fans and to thank them for their "well-wishes".

"Long story short, I went in because I was feeling like I was being choked from whatever's in the house," she said, adding in a caption that she had chest pains and felt like she couldn't breathe.

"And then I was, like, maybe it's just a coincidence? Maybe there's something actually medically wrong with me?"

"So I went to the ER after a very long day of work with lots of makeup on and I just got home from Friday night."

The Vampire Academy actress went on to say that doctors conducted "multiple tests, multiple times" but were unable to discover what was wrong with her.

Hyland has been open about her health struggles in the past, having undergone two kidney transplants due to a condition called kidney dysplasia, which she has had since birth.

She regularly shares pictures of her scars from more than 16 surgeries on Instagram, encouraging her fans to be proud of their bodies and share their own personal health journeys.

Hyland has also spoken about suffering from endometriosis, a painful condition that affects around one in 10 women.

"A woman's body is a miraculous thing and we can do anything we set our minds to," she wrote on social media.
