The Biggest Loser trainer has defended the hit reality show after claims that it promotes unhealthily rapid weight loss.

After American participant Rachel Frederickson lost a staggering 72kg in only a few months (check out the video below), audiences were quick to blast the transformation as extreme and dangerous.

Other contestants have also labeled the show as a "quick fix", revealing that they immediately put the weight back on after their stay in The Biggest Loser compound.

But according to Aussie trainer Michelle Bridges, it's not just about fat loss.

"Their life expectancy is better. Seriously, you can't refute that," the 43-year-old told The Telegraph.

"There are people who are no longer taking medication for blood pressure, they are no longer taking medication for diabetes, in some instances they are no longer taking medication for depression, their knees are better, their backs are better, the risk of heart attack and stroke has all been reduced."

Can't argue with that!

The Biggest Loser is an inspiration to so many people, but when asked if she actually watched the show herself, the author of new recipe book Superfoods replied that she is "so busy I don’t spend that much time watching television".
