Matty Healy is officially engaged to Gabriella Bechtel

It's a bittersweet day for fans of The 1975.

The band's lead singer, Matty Healy, is officially off the market, with his mum confirming his engagement to his partner of almost a year, model Gabriella Bechtel (better known by fans as Gabriette).

While fans couldn't be happier that Healy has finally found love, it's a sad day for those who were still holding out a bit of hope they'd one day find themselves in Gabriette's shoes.

The couple teased the news on Instagram on Wednesday night, but nothing was confirmed until Thursday morning when Healy's mum, Denise Welch, shared the official announcement on her TV talk show Loose Women.

"I've obviously known for a few weeks that Matty got engaged," Welch told her co-hosts.

"But then they went over to see their friends Charli and Georgie in New York, and I woke up this morning to the fact that they've put it on Instagram!"

The couple shared teased the news when Gabriette posted a photo of her engagement ring at the Charli XCX concert in New York, with the caption, "marrying The 1975 is very Brat," tagging Healy's Instagram @trumanblack.

Charli recently got engaged to the band's drummer George Daniel, and the two couple's were in New York celebrating the release of Charli's new album, brat.

The ring is a stunning black diamond on a silver band, surrounded by smaller, clear diamond's.

According to Welch, Healy had the ring custom made for his new fiancé.

"I couldn't be more thrilled," said Welch. "She's from Los Angeles, she's absolutely gorgeous... We couldn't be happier. She is everything that I would want in a daughter-in-law."
