Matt Damon's touching tribute to Philip Seymour Hoffman: 'He was a beautiful person'

Matt Damon has mourned the death of his Talented Mr Ripley co-star and friend Philip Seymour Hoffman in a new interview on Good Morning America. Watch his moving tribute to "one of the best actors to ever live" above.

Philip Seymour Hoffman died from an apparent heroin overdose in his Manhattan apartment on Sunday. The 46-year-old was found in his bathroom surrounded by drugs and needles, with almost 70 bags of heroin discovered at his home. An autopsy is due to be released today.

Former co-stars and friends Cate Blanchett and Justin Theroux have also paid their respects to Philip's family in New York. The Capote Oscar winner leaves behind three children: Cooper Alexander, 10, Tallulah, seven, and Willa, five.

Philip's former partner of 15 years, costumer designer Mimi O'Donnell, made her first appearance since his death, visiting a funeral home in New York's Upper East Side. The pair reportedly split a few months before Philip's death. View the video for more:
