Matt Damon is moving his family to Australia because of Donald Trump

Matt Damon has had it with US President Donald Trump and is moving his family to Australia.

The 47-year-old actor has reportedly purchased property in Byron Bay, New South Wales. The home is said to be next door to his good pal (and Melbourne native) Chris Hemsworth. It would be a natural fit for Damon, his wife Luciana Barroso, and their four children as the family vacationed in Byron Bay with the Hemsworths last year.

Damon also made a hilarious cameo in Hemsworth's Thor: Ragnarok.

Hemsworth, 34, himself moved his family from Los Angeles to his native Australia because, "I love what I do as an actor, but when you are surrounded by it constantly, it becomes a bit suffocating," he said in a 2016 interview with Modern Luxury. Hemsworth shares three children with wife Elsa Pataky.

"It's nice to have conversations with people and be a part of a community that doesn't live and breathe that world."

It would appear Damon is following suit. A source told Page Six: "Matt’s telling friends and colleagues in Hollywood that he’s moving the family to Australia" because the environmental activist disagrees with Trump’s policies. Trump has notably drawn the ire of many in Hollywood, including Robert DeNiro, Stephen Colbert, and Meryl Streep.

"Matt’s saying the move will not impact his work — as he will travel to wherever his projects are shooting," the Page Six source added. "He’s also telling friends he wants to have a safe place to raise his kids."

The Downsizing star had recently faced his own media storm over ill-received comments about sexual harassment in Hollywood and past work with disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein.
