Title of Machine Gun Kelly's upcoming film changed after criticism

Machine Gun Kelly's upcoming movie, Good News, has had a title change after heavy criticism from the brother of late rapper Mac Miller.

Miller McCormick publically shared his disapproval of the title of the film, taking to Instagram to air his grievances. According to Complex, he posted an Instagram story on July 1, saying: "f--k you. f--k your movie. at least change the title."

Good News is also the name of the rapper's first posthumous single from his January 2020 album, Circles.

Although McCormick did not specifically mention Machine Gun Kelly or the film's title, it's believed he is referring to his brother, who died in 2018 of an accidental drug overdose at 26.

Rivulet Media issued a statement to E! News on July 1 in response to McCormick's post, saying the film is fiction and they will change the title of the film, which was meant to be a homage to Miller.

"Our film is about a fictional musician on the rise with a troubled life," the statement read. "It's not in any way a biopic or based on any artist's true life."

"We realise the title, which was intended as a homage to Mac Miller, and other artists gone too soon, feels disrespectful," it continued. "We've heard from many people on social media who have found offence with the title so, without hesitation, we will change it."

According to Deadline the film takes inspiration from the real-life stories of such late performers as Miller, Lil Peep, Pop Smoke and Juice Wrld.
