As Oasis reunites, Liam has captured the attention of fans around the world – but we aren't talking about Liam Gallagher

One man named Liam has captured the attention of countless excited fans as he and his brother Noel take to Australian stages for the first time in 20 years.

Then there's another Liam. He may not be the parka-wearing, tambourine-balancing Liam Gallagher set to perform for close to 300,000 people at Sydney's Accor Stadium this weekend, but he's still managed to capture attention from the same group of passionate fans.

Aussie radio host and longtime Oasis fan Liam Gall- I mean, Stapleton found out he has a knack for embodying the iconic British singer, accent and all, and has channeled that skill into several now-viral TikTok videos.

He began making the impersonation videos for fun a "couple of years ago" but tells nine.com.au they really blew up when he posted one on the day Oasis announced their reunion tour last year.

"When the announcement happened I was hot on it, and probably did about two or three videos that week," Stapleton says. 

Now, he's only lent his Gallagherisms to about a dozen impersonation videos but "every time", Stapleton says, "they hit a nerve".

"He's a bit of an iconic character, right?" Stapleton adds.

"So he's just sort of fun to rip off."

And with the Oasis reunion uniting fans all over the world in shared excitement, it makes sense they've been so popular. 

But it was long before the famous band announced their plans to return to the stage that Stapleton discovered his unique party trick. 

In fact, it all started when Stapleton "got to interview the great man himself back in 2017" for his radio show.

"I got to spend like half an hour with him, and he was a legend," Stapleton recalls.

Perhaps Gallagher's quirks rubbed off on him during that time, because when Stapleton was later explaining the experience to fellow Aussie media personality Wil Anderson, he did a near-perfect impression of the Oasis front man, impressing Anderson. 

"I was like, 'That's so nice, Wil Anderson thinks I've got a cool Liam Gallagher impression," he recalls. 

And that was that. Once he learned he was able to Gallagherise, he locked into embodying the man entirely, pulling his parkas, Adidas Sambas and bucket hats – he says his personal "style is not too far different" from Gallagher's – out of his wardrobe and got to crafting his own version of the legend himself. 

"I'm ashamed to say I've probably got seven pairs of Adidas shoes that I just rotate, I've got two bucket hats and probably four parkas … I just like that 'geezer' style," he says.

It's also not all that hard for Stapleton to snap into character when the time calls for it.

In fact, it only takes about six words: "Proper cool, man, mad for it". 

Whipping out that iconic one-liner in Gallagher's accent is all it takes to slip back into character for his TikTok videos, and most recently for his collaboration with Oporto. 

Last Friday, the Portuguese chicken fast food chain launched Liam's Guided Meditation, as Oasis-inspired mindfulness track designed to help Aussies through their feelings of hanger. 

Throughout the almost nine-minute meditation, Stapleton embodies Gallagher's character to guide Aussies through their hanger, telling them to "breathe in and breathe fookin' out".

"It's pretty cool to be able to do something fun with a brand that's kind of my own thing," he says of the collaboration, admitting it was fun to embody Gallagher for Oporto's campaign.

Stapleton says he imagines Gallagher listening to the meditation himself during a "busy gig schedule" letting the steam off from the day. 

"Although he's patched up with Noel, there was 15 years of bag blood there," he adds.

"So I think when Noel's getting on the case a little bit, I like to just imagine Liam with the parka fully zipped up, tambourine balancing on his bucket hat, maybe choofing a dart, listening to the guided meditation, trying to get in his zone before a gig. 

And whether Gallagher meditates beforehand or not, Stapleton – who attended Oasis' first reunion gig in Cardiff and their Melbourne show last week – will be watching on as the brothers and the rest of the band continue to take to the stage for the remainder of their reunion tour... and perhaps making a TikTok or two along the way.

For Stapleton, who has been a fan of the band for years, it was a dream come true to see the band reunite – something he had hoped for for years. 

"Deep down in my heart, I hoped it would happen one day. I always said if it did I'd be on the first plane over there, and it turns out I was."
