Models, musicians and some A-list Aussies: A look back at Lenny Kravitz's dating history

Lenny Kravitz has the wild ability to capture the attention of millions in mere seconds.

The US singer-songwriter proved this in 2023 when a five-second video of him wearing an oversized brown scarf garnered almost 10 million views in a single day. 

It was a clever stunt, marking Kravitz's TikTok debut; the billowing scarf was the same winter woolly he made headlines wearing on the streets of New York City in 2012.

That's the charm of the Fly Away singer, who will be performing in Australia this month for the first time since 2012. The Aussie leg of his Blue Electric Light Tour kicks off this weekend in Sydney.

Along with his many chart-topping hits, Kravitz's life off-stage, particularly his choice of high-profile partners, has always attracted attention.

Since the late 1990s, Kravitz has been linked to a number of singers and actresses, a few he shared long-term relationships with and even contemplated remarriage.

Lisa Bonet

Kravitz was 21 when he met Lisa Bonet. It was 1985. They were backstage at a New Edition concert in California.

Kravitz knew the band's drummer. Bonet was a TV star on the Cosby Show. They struck up a conversation and exchanged phone numbers.

The next day they had a chance encounter at a jazz festival and struck up a friendship – just friendship, as Bonet was dating someone else at the time.

Three years later, on Bonet's 20th birthday in November 1987, they eloped in Las Vegas.

"Usually, when you meet somebody you like right from the beginning, there's that whole infatuation thing and the dating thing and the do-I-look-good? thing," he told Spin magazine in 1990.

"With Lisa there was none of that. It was like 'Oh, Lisa'. I'd look like s--t and just hang out. There were no walls to put up or anything."

The bohemian couple welcomed their daughter, Zoë Isabella Kravitz, in December 1988.

Kravitz and Bonet separated in 1991 and divorced in 1993. They remain friends.

Kylie Minogue

Australia's pop darling Kylie Minogue and Kravitz reportedly had a dalliance in the 1990s.

Little is known about the relationship, with both remaining tight-lipped. It has been reported, though unconfirmed, the pair shared a fling.

Kravitz was also reportedly romantically involved with US music icon Madonna in the '90s. However, he has publicly stated the pair never dated.

Vanessa Paradis

Kravitz became involved with French model and singer Vanessa Paradis in the 1990s.

The pair met in 1991, with the Grammy-winning Kravitz called in to produce Paradis' first album in English. They met over dinner and their friendship soon blossomed.

"I've never been afraid to suggest things or to be told no. Music is an area where I was able to make things happen," Paradis in 2019.

"Gainsbourg did not come to me, I asked him. Kravitz, it was the same."

The couple shared a five-year relationship before calling it quits in 1996.

"I was madly in love with her. Vanessa was the perfect woman, but she came at the wrong time," he told Paris Match.

Kravitz would go on to introduce her to Johnny Depp.

Natalie Imbruglia

Aussie songstress Natalie Imbruglia reportedly dated Kravitz in the late 1990s.

There is only scant detail about a relationship between the pair, with the Torn singer offering an offhand comment about Kravitz during a magazine interview.

Red Magazine quoted her as saying she dated the singer for a year, "and he wouldn't have known me if it wasn't for the song".

"So your life is affected by those things in strange ways," she said.

Adriana Lima

Brazilian model Adriana Lima and Kravitz started dating in 2001.

Lima starred in the music video for his song that same year, Yesterday Is Gone (My Dear Kay). By 2002 they had moved in together and were engaged.

However, it wasn't meant to be. Less than a year later Lima and Kravitz split.

Nicole Kidman

In a surprising turn ot events, Tom Cruise was the first to spill the beans on ex-wife Nicole Kidman relationship with Kravitz.

The Mission Impossible megastar confirmed the coupling during a TV interview with Larry King on CNN in late 2003.

"She is with Lenny. Lenny Kravitz. Yeah… he is a very talented musician," he said.

Cruise was dating Spanish actress Penelope Cruz at the time.

Kidman and Kravitz reportedly started dating in 2003 after the Big Little Lies star rented his New York City apartment while her apartment underwent renovations.

They were engaged but called it quits in 2004 before reaching the altar.

"I knew Zoë because I was engaged to her father," Kidman said in 2017 of her Big Little Lies co-star.

"It's all in the family! I love Lenny; he's a great guy."

In recent years Kravitz has focused on keeping his private life out of the public eye.

The 61-year-old Hunger Games actor is yet to confirm any relationship.
