Kellie Finlayson has revealed she’s in recovery after having surgery on her lung, a wedge resection, amid her stage four cancer fight.
The 30-year-old, who is the wife of AFL star Jeremy Finlayson, also 30, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2021 at age 25, with the cancer metastasising in her lungs.

In a post shared to Instagram earlier this week, the mother-of-one detailed her latest procedure alongside a photo of herself in hospital.
A wedge resection is where surgeons remove a triangle-shaped piece of lung tissue. Finlayson had the procedure on her left lung two weeks ago, and now has lots of staples in her lung.
She previously had a right lung wedge resection.
“Little update – is it’s been two weeks since my left lung wedge resection & I’m finally picking up the pace with recovery, it’s been slowwwwww and I’ve been puffed to put it lightly,” she said in her post.

“Good news is as always surgery went super well, I went in pretty confidently knowing how well I bounced back after my right lung wedge resection last March.
“But more resections to remove tumours/cancerous tissue were necessary which means a lot more staples than anticipated are also sitting pretty in my lung…. like the most my surgeons ever left in a single lung.”
Finlayson explained how she had inactive tumours removed, which are now being tested. She also said she prefers surgery recovery to getting chemotherapy amid her health battle.
“I had the active cancer and several inactive tumours removed from my lung, they’ve been sent off for more testing, fingers crossed we get some more answers and new treatment options but for now nothing really changes,” she wrote.
“All in all I’ve had four weeks off chemo and I’d choose a surgical recovery over taking chemo everyday, every single time. Thanks for checking in team 🩵🩵🩵.”

She also shared an image of her surgery scars and bandages after the procedure.
Finalyson recently told nine.com.au about her diagnosis and her battle, saying she was in shock after hearing the news after a colonoscopy.

“I don’t remember a hell of a lot [of that day]. I remember getting the news and then being home, which is kind of scary. Lucky I wasn’t driving, because I wouldn’t have remembered getting home,” she said.
“And within 24 hours, I was diagnosed stage four. So it was very quick.”
“My prognosis was 12 months, but there was never really any part of me that thought I wouldn’t make it that far,” she candidly added.
