Katy Perry laughs off wardrobe malfunction after splitting pants during American Idol performance

Katy Perry has laughed off a wardrobe malfunction she suffered during a live performance on American Idol. 

The pop star, who is a judge on the singing competition, was performing her hit song 'Teenage Dream' yesterday alongside fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan when she bent down and ripped the back of her leather pants.

"They busted," Bryan yelled as the music stopped, while Lionel added, "The concert is officially over!" 

Perry, 37, took the mishap in her stride, laughing on the side of the stage as she called for some reinforcements.

"Can I get some tape?" she asked before crew members and Bryan came to her assistance, hilariously taping the ripped area with duct tape.

Unfortunately for Perry, this isn't the first wardrobe malfunction she has experienced on the show. Back in 2018, the singer was in a similar predicament after she got too excited following contestant Maddie Poppe's duet with Colbie Caillat.

"I just split my pants!" she yelled from her chair, before getting up to show the audience her ripped pants. 

"Tape my butt," she then instructed nearby crew members 

Richie was mortified for Perry as he jumped to cover her backside while jokingly shouting, "Save the children!"
