'I'm really proud': Katie Holmes' rare comments about her daughter Suri

Katie Holmes is notoriously private about life with her daughter Suri.

The Dawson's Creek actress, who shares her only daughter with her ex-husband Tom Cruise is often tight-lipped about Suri but has given some rare insight in a recent interview.

Speaking with Town & Country, Holmes revealed that she is "proud" of her now 18-year-old daughter, who is rumoured to be pursuing a career in fashion or acting as she heads off to college, and will miss her as she begins to fly the nest.

"I'm proud of my daughter. Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I'm really proud of her and I'm happy," Holmes said.

"I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It's exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that."

Cruise and Holmes welcomed Suri in 2006, after marrying in 2003. The couple later split in 2011.

Holmes, now 45, was 27 years old she welcomed Suri, and once candidly said she feels like the New York-based pair have "grown up together" over the years.

Speaking to Elle UK in late 2019, Holmes said: "It's been nice that our ages fit… how do I put this? Every age that my child has been and my age at that time has been a good match. We kind of grew up together."

The Dawson's Creek star has always worked hard to maintain privacy for her daughter - who, naturally, has grown up in the public eye due to her Hollywood star parents - but has in recent years shed some light on their incredible bond.

She recently told Glamour she's been "protective" of Suri her whole life as she was in the spotlight from a young age.

"What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her.

"I'm very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She's an incredible person."

As Suri enters adulthood, we may see a lot more from her as she pursues her own career ventures and potentially follows in her famous parents' footsteps.

But it seems one thing is for sure - Holmes will always be in her corner.

"Motherhood means everything to me," Holmes has previously told People.
