Fan ‘on the verge of tears’ mistaking Joel Edgerton for another Aussie star
Joel Edgerton has fallen victim to a case of mistaken identity, accidentally almost bringing a fan to tears.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly at San Diego Comic-Con, Edgerton told the story of a time he was mistaken for another Aussie star by an emotional fan.

“One time I had a young lady run up to me and say, ‘Oh my God, Oh my God, can I get your autograph?’” He said.
“And she was on the verge of tears. And I was like, ‘Wow, I’m really having an effect over this woman.’”
The woman asked Edgerton to sign his autograph, so he kindly obliged. It was only when he handed it back that he realised what was really going on.
“And then she held it to her heart, and she goes, ‘I just loved you in Avatar’,” he said.

Why 11 years ago, world-famous Aussies Lara and Sam Worthington chose to vanish from the spotlight
If you’re still confused, it’s probably important to clarify that Edgerton was not in any of the Avatar movies; however, the star of those films is a fellow Aussie actor.
Sam Worthington is the leading man in James Cameron’s Avatar trilogy, and when the two men stand side-by-side there is a remarkable resemblance.
“I just said, ‘Thank you. Thank you’. Whenever people mistake me for a particular movie, I just say, ‘Thank you… Thank you for the compliments’,” Edgerton explained.
“They go away and maybe work it out later. And I’m sure she went, ‘J.E., what…’
“She obviously thought I was Sam Worthington. He’s a good-looking guy.”

Both actors have been open about the fact that they often get mistaken for one another, and it’s easy to see why.
They look alike, they’re both Australian, they both broke into Hollywood around the same time, and both their last names the same way.
While Worthington broke through with a major Hollywood hit as one of his first roles, Edgerton’s rise to fame was a little steadier.
He first became known as Will McGill on the Aussie TV series The Secret Life of Us, before landing roles in major projects including Star Wars and Animal Kingdom.
