Jessica Simpson performs live for the first time in 15 years as she makes her music comeback following Eric Johnson split

Jessica Simpson is making her big return to music.

The newly single singer performed live for the first time in 15 years at the Recording Academy's Austin Chapter Block Party at SXSW in a comeback she has described as "emotional".

Simpson performed to cheers from the crowd and went on to share a series of videos from her performance on Instagram with her millions of followers.

"Last night, was my first performance in 15 years," she wrote in her post.

"It was an emotional coming back home to the best part of myself. Thank you for embracing me. You know that I have so much to say, but this lucky voice gets to soar again tonight. I love y'all. More to come…"

In one video, she spoke about being inspired to write music.

"My life turned upside down and there was no way I was going to let it keep me from my purpose and there was no way I was going to let my light go dim...."

"I can say today I love myself, I love the woman I am, the mother I am, the friend I am and you write some good music when you go through heartbreak, so I guess take advantage of it."

"This time I needed to remember who I was," she says in another video shared on her Instagram story and on the Recording Academy's Instagram page.

Simpson, who is known for hits including I Wanna Love You Forever, With You and Irresistible, confirmed her shock split from former NFL star Eric Johnson after 10 years of marriage.

"Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage," the mother-of-three told People

"Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them.

"We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family."

Before her marriage to Johnson, she was married to 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey.
