Jessica Mauboy sacks stylist over Melbourne Cup furore

Someone's head was always going to roll over Jessica Mauboy's Melbourne Cup national anthem saga – and now it has.

A source close to the 26-year-old singer told Sydney Confidential that Jessica has cut ties with her long-time stylist Mikey Ayoubi, the man at the centre of the fashion drama that kept her from going onstage.

Sydney stylist Mikey is reported to have dressed the 'This Ain't Love' singer in a dress and fascinator from racing sponsor Myer…and a pair of Dolce and Gabbana boots from competitor David Jones.

Victoria Racing Club officials deemed the boots inappropriate, which sparked Jessica's panic attack backstage.

Mikey would not comment on the source's claims he'd been dumped by his former number-one client, however, he did not deny it either. Jessica's management also refused to comment.

Two days ago, Mikey shared a photo on his Instagram of "my friend" Jessica's In Style magazine cover, crediting another stylist.

Days after the Melbourne Cup, Jessica confirmed that she felt "suffocated" by "bickering" over what her management later called a "miscommunication with her styling team".

"Four minutes before I am about to be walked out from the green room, people on one side are bickering with people on another side and it started to suffocate me," Jessica told News Ltd. "It was crazy and I didn't know what to do.

"All I could feel was all the bad energy coming from people. Time stopped and I could see it all going on around me. I could see me stuck on the lounge and I'm thinking 'Why aren't you getting up and getting going?' It was really horrible."

She later told 2GB's Alan Jones: "I'd be happy to wear thongs, that's just the person I am…I'd be happy to wear a trackie suit, get on there barefoot."

Jessica was replaced at the last minute by back-up singer Nadia Aya.
