'I started sobbing': Jessie J opens up about emotional post-surgery moment with her mum

Jessie J has revealed the emotional toll her breast cancer journey has had on herself and her family in a candid interview.

The Price Tag singer, 37, who revealed in June that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and recently underwent a mastectomy, opened up about a recent moment with her mum that left her crying uncontrollably.

"The other night. Mum was massaging my boob for me, because I can't touch the scars. And I started sobbing, 'I can't believe this has happened,'" she told The Sunday Times.

"She was like, 'I wish it was me,' and then I'm crying, she's crying," Jessie J continued before adding, "I'm so glad it's not her".

The musician underwent breast cancer surgery back in June and shared an update to her fans on social media in the weeks after.

"My experience was when I was diagnosed I went into survival mode," she shared to her Instagram stories.

"I didn't really have a lot of time to process what was happening or what was going to happen. So I'm currently experiencing some delayed sadness and frustration by having time to process what IS happening."

She shared that she didn't have enough time to process what would be happening to herself physically.

"A little disappointed in myself I didn't say goodbye to my old boob enough," she shared, "Sounds silly but that's where I'm at. Again that's my journey. I'm sure others feel different."

Speaking to The Times, Jessie J shared more insight into her procedure and her results.

"I was able to keep my nipple but it's all numb now. And when I bend down it looks like I've got a plastic carrier bag in my boob because you can see the wrinkles," she said candidly.

While the surgery seems to have been a success, there's still a long road ahead for the singer.

"People think, once you've got the all-clear, now it's done," she explained. "But I've got another surgery [to improve the symmetry of her impact with her other breast] and I need to heal, so I have to figure out the rest of this year."

She added that perhaps this medical journey came in a busy period of her life to encourage her to slow down.

"Maybe this has happened to go: slow your roll, girl, let's have a little reassessment," she said.
