'Hid in the bathroom': Why audition for iconic '90s show left Jennifer Garner in tears

Jennifer Garner has opened up about the emotional journey of auditioning for Felicity.

"I remember the audition. I remember going into the bathroom after because the scene was so emotional and I needed to cry," she said on the newest episode of the Dear Felicity podcast.

"I needed to hide in the bathroom stall and finish the cry that I started in the audition because it was such a powerful scene."

Garner shared the confession with former co-star and Dear Felicity podcast host, Greg Gunberg, who starred as Sean Blumberg on the beloved '90s show.

She said the show's co-creator, J.J. Abrams, asked her to come back for a second audition, to which Gunberg joked, "That makes sense to me, because you're not very good.

"I totally get it. I mean, notes, notes – you know what? Let me give her a block of notes to take home."

But Garner shared that she loved the creative process working alongside Abrams and his co-creator, Matt Reeves, sharing that she needs "a ton of feedback" in order to thrive.

"They are helpful and they are true directors. They aren't just like, 'OK, that seems fine. You have another one in you?'" she told Gunberg.

"They have an idea, and they're helping guide you to the best version of whatever you show up with."

But the emotional toll the original audition took on her didn't deter Garner from continuing to pursue the role.

"After the first read, then I really was invested, and was like, 'Oh gosh, I really wanna do this,'" she said.

The actress ended up securing herself a role on the show, starring as Hannah Bibb alongside cast members including Keri Russell and Scott Speedman.

She ended up dating her on-screen boyfriend, Scott Foley, and went on to marry him in 2000 before divorcing four years later.
