Jeff Bezos shuts down major $960 million wedding claim

One of the world's richest men has shut down a major $960 million rumour.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has denied reports he's marrying his fiancée, Emmy-winning journalist Lauren Sánchez in a $960 million wedding abroad.

Bezos, 60, and Sánchez, 55, got engaged in May 2023.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), billionaire Bill Ackman reposted an article reporting that Bezos was spending $US600 million (approx. $960 million) on an wedding in Aspen.

Bezos, 60, is known as the former CEO and current executive chairman of Amazon, for which he has amassed a reported staggering net worth of $238.5 billion ($381 billion).

It's been reported Bezos and Sanchez would be tying the knot on December 28 in a "winter wonderland-themed" ceremony.

Acknowledging the reports, Ackman wrote, "Unless you are buying each of your guests a house, you can't spend this much money."

Bezos responded to Ackman in his own post shortly after.

"Furthermore, this whole thing is completely false – none of this is happening," he wrote.

"The old adage "don't believe everything you read" is even more true today than it ever has been.

Bezos and Sánchez have reportedly been dating since 2019.

The billionaire was previously married to philanthropist Mackenzie Scott for 26 years. They announced their divorce in a joint statement on January 9, 2019.

Bezos and Sánchez opened up about their relationship in a 2022 interview with CNN.

In their first joint interview following the Amazon founder's divorce, Sánchez said they were "really great teammates" and "have a lot of fun together".

"And we love each other. We always look at each other and we're the team."

Speaking of Sánchez, Bezos said, "Lauren is the most generous, most big-hearted person that you would ever meet."

The couple got engaged in early 2023 after four years of dating.

They celebrated with a star-studded engagement party on the billionaire's mega-yacht a few months later in August.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Kris Jenner were some of the A-list attendees.

In a November 2023 interview with Vogue, Sánchez shared her reaction to when Bezos popped the question.

"When he opened the box, I think I blacked out a bit," she said.

Sánchez revealed she would be taking the Amazon founder's last name after they wed.
