Jeff Bezos and girlfriend Lauren Sánchez give first joint interview after Amazon founder's $50b divorce

Amazon boss Jeff Bezos and girlfriend Lauren Sánchez have offered a rare insight into their relationship in their first joint interview since the billionaire's high-profile divorce.

The couple were spotted together in 2019, the same year Bezos finalised his divorce from wife of 26 years, Mackenzie Scott

"We're really great teammates, and we also have a lot of fun together," Sánchez, 52, shared during the CNN interview.

"And we love each other. We always look at each other and we're the team."

Bezos, 58, chimed in, "We bring each other energy, we respect each other. So, it's fun to work together."

When asked what Sánchez has "brought to his life", the business mogul responded, "Lauren is the most generous, most big-hearted person that you would ever meet."

He described her as an "inspiration", with Sánchez responding, "That's so sweet."

When asked what a typical Saturday night looks like for them, Sánchez said they are "kind of boring."

"Normally, we have dinner with the kids. That's always fun, we have great conversation. There's seven between us, there's a lot of discussion," she shared.

"And then we watch a movie, and by committee it takes a long time to find that movie."

Sánchez, an Emmy-award-winning journalist, says she plans to fly to space in 2023. Bezos founded the spaceflight company Blue Origin, and flew to space in one of his own rockets in July 2021.

During the interview, Bezos spoke of his plans to give away most of his wealth during his lifetime.

"It's not easy. Building Amazon was not easy," he said.

"It took a lot of hard work, a bunch of very smart teammates, hard-working teammates, and I'm finding – and I think Lauren is finding the same thing – that charity, philanthropy, is very similar.

"There are a bunch of ways that I think you could do ineffective things, too. So you have to think about it carefully and you have to have brilliant people on the team."

Bezos and Sánchez first met through her husband of 14 years, Patrick Whitesell, a family friend and Hollywood agent.

They first went public with their relationship in July 2019 attending Wimbledon together. That same year they were pictured holidaying in St Bart's.
