Jamie Lee Curtis has shared a cheeky response after a plunging outfit she wore while promoting her new movie Freakier Friday went unexpectedly viral.

The actress, 66, took to Instagram on Thursday to address the chatter after dressing as her character Tess Coleman to a screening of the film, which she stars in alongside Lindsay Lohan.

"I LOVE the fact that the LAST photograph of me as TESS taken backstage in costume from my surprise appearance at @elcapitanthtre to support #freakierfriday has gotten more attention than any other since the announcement post with @lindsaylohan that sparked the movie getting made!" Curtis said.

She's not wrong, with the announcement raking in over 16 million views online.

"HAPPY TO HELP SPREAD THE JOY THAT OUR MOVIE SERVES!" she continued.

The comments section was met with an abundance of hilarious responses, with one reading: "The best energy," while another added: "Not only is she a fantastic actress, she's funny and down to earth. Love her."

Freakier Friday is the spin-off to the hit 2003 movie Freaky Friday, which originally made a whopping $160.8 million at the box office – a giant feat for a teen comedy.

Curtis recently spoke to 9Honey about her role in the movie, admitting it was originally meant for another actor.

"Another actress was doing the movie and she pulled out, I think, for personal reasons. I really never found out [why], and I had, like, four days before we started to work," she said.

It was American Beauty star Annette Bening who was originally meant to play Tess Coleman, and while most actors would be hesitant to take on a role with such short notice, Curtis says she wasn't too fazed.

But she did have one concern.

"I had no hesitation to do that. The only hesitation was I had a 15-year-old and a five-year-old at home," she explained.

"So just the idea of jumping into a movie where all of a sudden I was going to go to work for three months on something, and just the management of my family life, was the only issue for me."

Thankfully, in Curtis' own words, "the movie turned out to be a humongous hit".

"[It] really changed my career in many ways, so of course I'm grateful," she added.
