Jackson Warne debuts new career following in his father’s footsteps

Jackson Warne has taken notes from his father’s career while making sure to carve his own path.

The 27-year-old, son of late cricket legend Shane Warne, has debuted his new role as a roving reporter with Sky Sports in the UK.

Jackson is covering The Hundred, a professional cricket league in the UK, played across July and August each year.

Already he’s won over players and colleagues with his casual and informed interview style, chatting with some of the best players in the game about the sport and their lives off the field.

While Jackson played cricket for a short time in school, he eventually quit as a teenager to avoid living up to the pressure of his father’s legacy.

“I never pushed Jackson into cricket,” Shane once told the Sun Herald.

“He played it for a year, took a hat-trick – took four wickets in five balls – bowling a little bit of leg-spin or with the seam, smashed a few with the bat. Still, the game didn’t really grab him.”

While being on the field never felt right to Jackson, he seems to have found his rhythm in front of the camera, with his role with Sky Sport seeming like a natural progression, combining his father’s legacy with his own blossoming media career.

Outside of his latest gig, Jackson is also preparing to relaunch his podcast, Warne’s Way, in September.

Since the first episode debuted in August 2025, Jackson has interviewed a range of popular sports stars, entrepreneurs, TV personalities, and public figures connected to his father’s life, including singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran.

The podcast sees guests dive deep into their personal lives, discussing grief, mental struggles, and their experiences overcoming difficult times. Often, guests will also share their memories of Jackson’s dad.

During his appearance, Sheeran shared that his last memory with Shane was going to a Coldplay concert together. He explained that he doesn’t usually attend concerts, but it had been Shane’s idea for the pair to go.

“Your dad came around before to my house, and we had sort of like pre-drinks and hung. And then we walked there because it was just around the corner from my gaff,” Sheeran recalled.

“I stood next to your dad for the entire gig. I usually would watch from like side-of-stage, but I was like in the crowd next to your dad, arm around him, singing loud, loud, loud.

“And it was like Covid lockdown was sort of ending, and it was the first time, you know, people had been at gigs. It was also seeing Coldplay in like a tiny venue. But I like really cherish that like that was my last proper memory with him was that. You know, it’s a really lovely one.”
