Iggy Azalea sets record straight after being criticised for not defending Britney Spears amid conservatorship trial

Iggy Azalea has hit back at criticism she has not been supportive of Britney Spears amid the pop star's ongoing conservatorship battle, which came to a head last week when Spears testified in a California court. 

The Aussie rapper, who collaborated with Spears in 2015 on the track 'Pretty Girls', set the record straight after one social media user accused her of remaining silent instead of speaking out publicly in support of Spears, like many other celebrities have done.

But the 31-year-old 'Fancy' singer reminded fans that she has been on Spears' side since day one.

"Right, I said her team wouldn't let her do promo and that they went through my house etc and y'all said I was a hater," Iggy tweeted, while alleging Spears' team searched her property ahead of their collaboration six years ago.

Azalea then revealed she signed a nondisclosure agreement so she won't divulge any more information because Spears' dad, Jamie Spears, "could and probably would sue me".

"I am actually here to support someone in a way that's helpful and also mindful. Britney has said in her own words, she's embarrassed to even share this with the world. If she needed me to speak on her behalf, That message has been delivered to her," Azalea continued on Twitter.

"Other than that – I'm good. I've done what I'm supposed to do, I've reached out. I'm not supposed to be mindlessly telling you all whatever was happening because half of these people are just here for entertainment not to help. I actually care & she can use me if she needs my voice. Leave me alone PLEASE."

In 2016, one year after their collaboration, Azalea did in fact speak out about her experience with Spears, who at the time was seven years into her court-ordered conservatorship. 

"[Her team] came and checked my place to make sure I wasn't trying to stash anything weird and, like, get it to her or something...to make sure I wasn't a bad influence," Azalea told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live at the time. "And I'm not. I passed the test!"

Last week, Spears spoke to a California judge for 30 minutes during which she said the "conservatorship is doing me way more harm than good" and she would like to end it for good.

"I deserve to have a life," she told Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny at the hearing. "All I want is to own my money and for this to end and for my boyfriend to be able to drive me in his [expletive] car. I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive. I want my life back."
