Hugh Jackman's 'Un-Australian' move exposed - as fans notice unusual detail in shoey video

All was not as it seemed with Hugh Jackman’s recent display of national pride.

Jackman and friend Ryan Reynolds delighted fans when Reynolds posted footage of Jackman introducing him to a time-honoured local tradition – a shoey.

The duo were celebrating a win by the Bonds Flying Roos team, which they part-own, in the SailGP competition.

But while fans quickly celebrated Jackman’s Aussieness, on closer inspection it seems the 57-year-old may have taken a much more hygienic shortcut.

In a second image from the celebrations, Jackman and Reynolds posed with the drink vessel/footwear, which at first glance looks like a standard high top Converse.

But look closer and you will see it was very small, and the sole featured a design from their film, Deadpool & Wolverine – leading fans to believe it was simply a prop.

In fact, the shoe was a ceramic – which purists would surely argue disqualifies it from shoey status completely.

“Looks like a shoe shaped cup. Definitely not one of their dirty shoes. That’s Un-Australian,” one eagle-eyed person noted.

“It’s not a shoey unless it’s your own shoe straight off your foot,” said another.

“A very ‘Hollywood’ shoey,” joked a third.

While the temporary cup may have been fresher than desired, the beer seemed to be as expected.

Jackman downed his drink and pumped his first in the air in victory before handing the shoe (if we can really call it that) to Reynolds.

The Canadian necked the beer as Jackman cheered, and after a celebratory hug, fell to his knees.

Real or not, the stunt has certainly drawn eyes to Jackman and Reynolds’ Flying Roos support, which took an even greater leap last month.

The longtime pals announced their involvement in an upcoming Disney+ SailGP series about the sailing team, much like Reynolds’ Welcome to Wrexham series and Netflix’s popular Formula 1: Drive to Survive.

With support like that for an Australian sports team, perhaps we can forgive the fake shoe.
