Ewan McGregor has opened up about his private life two years on from his split with wife Eve Mavrakis.

The pair were married for 22 years before the Scottish star filed for divorce in 2017, with rumours suggesting he left  53-year-old Mavrakis — the mother of his four children — for his Fargo co-star, Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Just two months after the separation, the 48-year-old actor was photographed passionately kissing Winstead, 34, at a London cafe.

It's now been two years since the scandal made headlines and McGregor said he's never felt "better".

"Lighter? Today? As opposed to then?" he asked when quizzed during a new interview with Men's Journal. "I am better. I am happier. I think that's true."

While McGregor is in a happier place now, his daughters found it hard to move on when he left their mother. The former couple share four daughters Clara, 23, Jamyan, 18, Esther, 17, and eight-year-old Anouk.

His eldest, Clara, lashed out at Winstead, calling her "a piece of trash" on Instagram. She also apparently called her dad an "a--hole" on social media, which she vehemently denied.

"It wasn't the most mature way to go about things, but I was angry and upset," Clara later told The Times of her "trash" comment. "There had been a lot building up to it and a lot to deal with — not to make excuses or anything — but, yeah, it wasn't my finest moment.

"It was incredibly surprising to me that they had gone out in public," she explained. "The [kissing] picture surfaced on my little sister's birthday, but my dad didn't know it was going to come out. He didn't want us to see that, but, you know, there were paparazzi following them around."

Now Clara said she only wants what's best for her dad and Winstead. She even invited him to her graduation in May 2018.

"I'm good," Clara admitted. "I wish them all the best, but I'm staying out of that, for sure."

Another daughter who had a hard time coming to terms with McGregor's new life is Esther, who wrote a song in January 2018 which appears to be about her dad.

"Waking up slowly, I'm taking my time," she sings on the track titled 'Made You a Man'. "I read some dumb s--- that I found online. Seeing those pictures, they're making me cry. Happy birthday to me — am I right? I don't know how to forgive. I don't know if I can. Ruining me."

When her followers called the song a diss track about her dad, Esther set the record straight.

"My song was not a slam, but a way of expressing my feelings with what I love most. Music," Esther wrote on Instagram at the time.
