Severance star Britt Lower holds up chilling three-word message to millions during Emmy Awards acceptance speech
Severance actress Britt Lower sent the 2025 Emmy Awards into a frenzy as she accepted the gong for Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the Sunday night ceremony.
But not because of anything she said – rather the three-word message she had displayed on the back of her notes for millions of viewers to see.
The 40-year-old was clearly emotional as she spoke to the crowd, saying: "First, it's a privilege to even be mentioned alongside such an incredible group of artists. Wow.

"I share this award with my heroic cast and crew whose work catalyses mine.
"Thank you to my mum and my dad, my brother, my husband, our kids, our co-parents, our chosen family. I love you so much. Thank you for this, and thank you for choosing me."
But on the back of the speech were three words written in capital letters: "Let me out."

Lower plays Helena Egan, the daughter of the mysterious Lumon Industries' CEO – but inside her "severed" work world, she plays Helly R.
Helly R wrote the same desperate plea on her forearm in an attempt to be freed from the prison-style work environment in the series.
It's a genius Easter egg from Lower, suggesting her "innie" Helly R was actually on-stage accepting the award and begging to be set free.

Fans dubbed the move "iconic", with one writing on social media: "Omfg she is such a genius I can't 😂."

"Hahah! Love it. Break that 4th wall!" another added, while a third wrote: "Omg genius truly wow – this thrills me."
Severance dominated in the drama category with 27 nominations at the 2025 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series.
But it only ended up winning two on the night; one for Lower's role and another for her co-star Tramell Tillman, who won for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
At the end of the night, many had tipped Severance to win Best Drama Series but it wasn't the case.
Instead, the award went to medical drama The Pitt.

The cast and crew of The Pitt, a highly realistic medical drama series that shows a depiction of the challenges faced by healthcare workers in America, took to the stage to accept the honour.
The show's executive producer John Wells accepted the golden statuette on behalf of the team and expressed his thanks to everyone involved.

He concluded the acceptance speech with a shout out to the frontline workers their show celebrates.
"To all the healthcare workers, emergency workers, frontline workers. Respect them, help them trust them," he said.
