'I'm going to die': Eminem opens up about his near fatal overdose and why he decided to get clean
Eminem, 52, has opened up about his near fatal overdose back in 2007.
The famed rapper's new documentary STANS – named after his hit 2000 song – is set for release on streaming later this year after having had a limited run in cinemas early August.
According to People, Eminem – whose real name is Marshall Mathers – shared in the film that he decided to get sober after realising he would "die" otherwise.

"After the overdose, I came home going, 'Yo, bro, I need something... I'm going to die if I don't do something,'" Eminem reportedly says in the documentary.
He shared that he was coming off a "vicious cycle" at the time of the overdose, adding that he was feeling "depressed" and like he "needed more pills".
Then, amidst the blur, he found himself one day waking up in the hospital.
"I didn't how what the f--k happened. It seemed like I fell asleep, and I woke up with tubes in me and s--t. I wanted to get up. I couldn't move," the rapper recalled.
Following his overdose, he made the 2009 album Relapse during the recovery process, however it was released to a "lukewarm" reception.
"That also turned the lights on and I thought, 'You've gotta do something different. Why don't you try embracing sobriety?'" He said.
"I realised I'm not embarrassed anymore about it, and I started treating sobriety like a superpower. I was proud of the fact that I could quit."

The Without Me hitmaker celebrated 16 years sober back in April, 2024, taking to Instagram to mark the milestone.
Eminem posted an image of his hand held out, holding a new chip with the number 16 engraved on it.
STANS was released in cinemas for a limited run from August 7 to 10, but for fans who missed the theatrical release the documentary will be available to stream on Paramount+ later this year.
