Elon Musk approaches Texas officials with plans to found his own city in the US state called Starbase

While us mere mortals have simple wish lists in life — car, house, picket fence — ambitious billionaires like Elon Musk want more, like potentially founding his own city in the US.

The Tesla boss and SpaceX chief designer has already taken the steps to make his dream a reality by approaching officials in Texas, where he hopes to own a piece of the state. 

According to TMZ, the 49-year-old has spoken to officials in Cameron County about his plans to found his own city in the area, which he'll call Starbase. The location was already on Musk's radar as he has a private launch site and rocket production facility in the county.

And the proposal isn't as far-fetched as it sounds with County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr practically giving Musk the green light, providing he files all the required paperwork.

"If SpaceX and Elon Musk would like to pursue down this path, they must abide by all state incorporation statutes," TMZ reported Judge Treviño saying. "Cameron County will process any appropriate petitions in conformity with applicable law."

Musk has made no secret of his plans to expand in Texas. In December, he confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that he had relocated from California to Texas to focus on building SpaceX's new Starship vehicle and Tesla Inc.'s new Gigafactory, which is currently under construction in Austin.

In November, Musk's company went on a hiring spree in Austin ahead of the factory's upcoming opening.

In an interview, the billionaire said he found California less attractive because it had become "complacent" in terms of economic growth.

Musk lived in the state for two decades during which he ran SpaceX from LA and Tesla from its HQ in San Francisco. 

"I have moved to Texas," he told the outlet. "If a team has been winning for too long they do tend to get a little complacent, a little entitled and then they don't win the championship anymore. California's been winning for a long time. And I think they're taking them for granted a little bit."
