Duane Chapman is not engaged to his assistant and 'dearest friend' Moon Angell

Duane Chapman, aka Dog the Bounty Hunter, is setting the record straight on rumours he proposed to his longtime assistant, Moon Angell.

Fans were convinced that the reality star popped the big question last month after a video of Chapman on bended knee emerged on social media. And many were not happy given it has only been eight months since the death of his wife, Beth Chapman. 

The video in question was a promo clip for Dr Oz, in which the 67-year-old could be seen saying, "Moon Angell, will you marry me?" But after the episode aired in its full entirety on Monday, there was clearly a lot more to the scene than what was shown.

Chapman assured viewers that Angell was just his "dearest friend" and to "test" their friendship, he proposed to her.

"What? We're friends Duane. I love you as a friend. I can't marry you," she replied. "Right at this very moment, I don't see you as that. I love you and Beth as my friends."

Chapman replied that he knew she would decline but he just wanted "everyone else to know, too".

Earlier in the episode, Chapman revealed that if he ever felt ready to move on, he had Beth's full blessing.

"Well, one time she said, if something would happen, because I always said, 'You're not going to die. Don't worry, you're not going to die,'" he told host Dr Mehmet Oz of his wife, who died from cancer in June. "I held that to the very last breath, 'You're not dying.' And she said, 'I want you to be happy.'"
