'Caused a bit of a stir': Dua Lipa shares the truth behind controversial wedding look

It's the sacred rule of a wedding – never wear white.

It's one of those things you just know no one ever had to specifically point it out, it's simply common sense not to wear white to a wedding.

That's why when Dua Lipa wore a sheer white gown to a wedding back in 2022, the internet lost its mind.

"This outfit kind of caused a little bit of a stir," Lipa said, reflecting on the look in a new interview with Harper's Bazaar.

She wore the gown as a guest to the wedding of friend and designer Simon Porte Jacquemus as he tied the know with Marco Maestri.

But it turns out there was a simple explanation for the controversial look – it was all part of the dress code!

"The dress code was white," Lipa explained.

"From all the pictures you can see that everybody's wearing white, so I don't know why I got so much stick for it.

"I think also because I was kind of quite naked for it as well."

Some online criticised Lipa for the sheer gown, saying that the look was inappropriate for a wedding.

But once again, Lipa had a simple explanation, proving that maybe you should wait to hear the full story before sharing online criticisms.

"Simone who was getting married, Jacquemus, he designed the dress," she shared.

"So, it was at his request that I wore this dress to his wedding. I absolutely loved it.

"I felt so good in it. It was just unbelievable. I feel like I talk about that wedding still to this day."

The stunning, floor-length gown feature delicate flower detailing and capped sleeves, with Lipa accessorising the look with a black purse and a pair of statement earrings.

Lipa herself is engaged to Fantastic Beasts star, Callum Turner.

"Yeah, we're engaged," the Levitating singer told Vogue earlier this year, before revealing the actor, 35, had her ring specially made.

"This decision to grow old together, to see a life and just, I don't know, be best friends forever – it's a really special feeling," she sweetly said.

Lipa added that they're in no rush to actually tie-the-knot just yet with their busy schedules.

"I want to finish my tour, Callum's shooting, so we're just enjoying this period," Lipa said.
