Dom Dolla’s 60,000-strong Melbourne gig in chaos as speakers fail mid-concert

Dom Dolla fans have rallied behind the Australian DJ after a sound issue at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium left sections of the crowd struggling to hear his set.

Dom Dolla, legally Dominic Louis Matheson, returned to the stage for his long-awaited hometown show in Melbourne on Thursday night with almost 60,000 fans rocking up to support him.

However, the night was soon hit by a technical snag. Social media footage showed audio dropping out mid-set, leaving some sections of the stadium without sound after a front-of-house speaker seemingly malfunctioned.

Fans claimed the audio glitch lasted for around 20 to 30 minutes while the rest of the concert continued.

Some fans expressed disappointment, with several leaving the venue early and others calling for refunds online.

“People leaving Dom Dolla early because the speakers on the left side blew up,” one video was captioned.

“Girl it was cooked I didn’t even know Sandstorm was playing,” a second fan wrote in the comments.

“I was on the side it blew and half the people cracked it and left 💀” a third wrote.

But many fans were quick to defend the DJ, praising the technical team for fixing the glitch as quick as they could.

“Shoutout to the team who fixed this asap, that would’ve been so stressful,” one fan wrote in the caption of a video showing the moment the speakers blew.

Some concertgoers in the standing section said they heard Matheson announcing that technical staff were addressing the audio glitch. However, those who left early said they missed the message entirely due to the sound drop-out.

Nine.com.au has contacted Marvel Stadium and Matheson’s representatives for comment.

Despite the technical setback, many fans insisted the rest of the night was a success.

Fans raved about the experience underneath an Instagram post Matheson made following the gig.

“I am sitting here in my Airbnb still shook!! I’m 52 and that was the best f----g show I’ve seen! I’ve been to some incredible shows in my time, but that was everything!! Worth the flight from Adelaide,” one fan explained.

“Last night was bloody brilliant at Marvel Stadium…. Dom Dolla and friends brought the tunes and the crowd created the vibe. No fights, just adults having a boogie and a drink. Was a great night out,” another wrote.

“Yes there was a complete blow out of the left hand front of house speaker stack for about 30 minutes but that still didn’t dampen the evening.”

The Thursday night show in Melbourne was heavily anticipated by fans and Matheson alike.

The DJ took to his socials the night before the concert to express his gratitude to the fans, who sold out the stadium.

“It feels so damn good to be home 🥲,” the post started. “It’s not everyday you get to play to 60k legends in your hometown… I’d like to say I’ve dreamt of this moment since I very first started in music, but the truth is I had no idea hosting a show like this was even in the realm of possible realities.”

“The next few months are looking pretty mad: Melbourne, New York, head trip, Bay Area, Nashville, Chicago, Houston, Singapore, Auckland… I’m fired up to put on some of the best gigs of my life and play you some new music of mine. See you on the dance floor my friends ♥️ Dom.”

Matheson first blew up after his breakout hit Take It in 2018, which shot him to international stardom.
