Dave Hughes admits he lost $100,000 after investing in a bar
Dave Hughes has admitted to making a poor financial decision that ultimately lost him $100,000.
On Monday, the 48-year-old recalled on the Hit radio show Carrie & Tommy that he invested $100,000 in a business venture that failed to overturn a profit.
"I once invested in a bar and my share — I'm going to be unrelatable here to some people — my share cost $100,000," Hughes said on Monday.
The comedian hoped that the business would be a smart investment choice, but it didn't promise a great return.
"I was trying to leverage my profile to make the bar happen, but also I wanted to get joy out of it," Hughes said.
"I don't drink, and I had a wife at the time… I invested $100,000 for my share and I sold that share for $1."
Carrie Bickmore's co-host Tommy Little joked that the bar was in the "windiest part of Australia."
Dave Hughes bought Josh and Elyse's Melbourne property on The Block. Nine
This isn't the first time that Hughes made a big investment. The comedian bid on Josh Barker and Elyse Knowles' house on The Block 2017.
He went against his wife's wishes and paid a whopping $3.1 million for the Elsternwick pad. The property went above the reserve by $447,000 at auction.
"Hughesy has changed our life," Elyse told 9Honey just after the auction.
"He came through this morning, and I was like, 'Hughsey, what are you doing here?' It was all so last minute."
