Savage Garden's Darren Hayes shares the Truly Madly Deeply rewrite he just rejected for a TV ad

Savage Garden frontman Darren Hayes has revealed he recently turned down some serious money to perform a re-write of his hit 1997 song 'Truly Madly Deeply' for a TV commercial.

The 49-year-old shared a screenshot in a tweet today of the extremely cheesy lyrics he was pitched by an advertising company.

"If you knew how much money I turn down and how hard I fight to protect your high school memories," he captioned the tweet. "Real pitch from an advertising company who wanted to use one of my songs in a TV commercial. They thought I might like to do a quick re-record using these lyrics."

The advertising company suggested Hayes sing: "I want to stand with you on food mountain/I want to float with you in some cheese" instead of, "I wanna stand with you on a mountain/I wanna bathe with you in the sea".
