Daniel MacPherson stranded in Ireland after flight to Sydney cancelled due to hotel quarantine issue

Daniel MacPherson has been left stranded in Ireland after Etihad Airways unceremoniously cancelled his flight back to Sydney. 

The Aussie actor was returning home for the Christmas holidays after being in Limerick, Ireland, in recent months filming an as-yet-titled project. 

In an Instagram Stories post, MacPherson, 40, claimed that a quarantine issue in NSW meant the government could not accommodate him or his fellow passengers and therefore had to cancel the flight amid the coronavirus pandemic. 

"Had my seat cancelled today by @etihad  due to @nswgovernment1 [sic] hotel quarantine caps. Been booked and paid since September. Quarantine at my cost. No option to rebook or change date. Just cancelled. 4 weeks before Xmas," read a note he shared.

"Now I'm very fortunate. I'll work it out. It'll be fine. But feel for those in the same position, who don't have the finances or flexibility to get home this Xmas. Needs to be a better strategy. A longer term solution. There's gotta be."

But no matter where MacPherson is in the world, he is reminded of his supportive wife back home, actress Zoe Ventoura.

When the actor first landed the role in the Ireland-based project last year, Ventura urged him to take it even if it meant he would be away for the later stages of her pregnancy.

The couple have since welcomed son Austin, and spent the coronavirus lockdown bonding as a family at their home in Sydney before he was summoned back to Ireland.

"Thankfully I have a very understanding wife when I rang up and said, 'Hey I think I might have got this job', having told her that I was going to take at least three months off to come home and recover from seven months away and be there as a husband and as a new father," he explained on Samantha Gash's podcast back in May. 

"Thankfully I have someone in my life who understands the way I think and is open to that and it's all working out."

Still, MacPherson will be doing all he can to get back by Ventoura's side to help celebrate their son's first birthday next month — and the actor has already been counting down the days.

"10 Months Today," he captioned a photo of Austin on October 1. "What an honour it is to be your father."
