How a trivia-loving Aussie is getting through self-isolation

Self isolating isn't easy, whether you're a social butterfly or a homebody. Dinner and drinks with friends, a swim in the ocean or catching a movie at your local cinema — it's not fun giving up the things you love that are typically 'outside', even if it's for a really important and selfless reason.

One Australian who is currently staying at home to help flatten the curve of coronavirus misses his weekly pub trivia the most. But he's found a solution.

Instead of grabbing a table with his mates at his local quiz night in Sydney, self-described "enthusiast of nerd stuff" Andrew Williams is hosting his own pub trivia. Minus the pub, that is.

The 33-year-old film critic turned his personal Instagram page into a collection of regularly updated quizzes, ranging from topics like geography to sport to Guess The Film From The Emoji Description.

"I think with COVID-19 and the need to stay at home, a lot of people lost a routine that they had and I thought I could do a very, very small thing to help them get that back," says Williams.

"I have no followers, so it wasn't like I had much influence to lose by doing this," he jokes.

But Williams believes we might be self-isolating for a while yet, so he's thinking about levelling up his trivia game.

"I've had requests from my friends on Instagram to run a trivia night over video chat, which I'm going to try this week," he says.
