1989: Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh
Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh seemed like a match made in heaven, until it all came tumbling down in 1995.
At the time they cited 'busy work schedules' but it was later revealed a cheating scandal was at play that seemingly involved actress Helena Bonham Carter.
1966: Frank Sinatra and Mia Farrow
Frank Sinatra married actress Mia Farrow in 1966 at a private ceremony in Las Vegas.
Sinatra was 50 and Farrow was only 21 at the time.
When the couple divorced in 1968, Farrow blamed the age difference, saying she was an "impossibly immature teenager" at the time they were married.
1955: Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds
Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds were married in Grossinger, New York in 1955.
Their marriage ended in the tabloids, after Fisher left Reynolds for Elizabeth Taylor, just four years after they married.
1963: Betty White and Allen Ludden
Betty White married TV show host Allen Ludden after appearing on his show Password and immediately hitting it off.
Ludden proposed to White multiple times, but she kept turning him down.
Eventually he decided to wear the diamond ring on a chain around his neck until she eventually said yes in 1963, when he gifted her a white stuffed bunny with ruby, diamond, and sapphire earrings.
They remained married until 1981 when Ludden died of stomach cancer.
When asked by Anderson Cooper in 2011 why she did not want to remarry, White responded, "I had the love of my life. If you've had the best, who needs the rest?"
1951: Doris Day and Marty Melcher
In 1951, actress Doris Day married Marty Melcher, a man who would later go on to be her manager.
Melcher was Day's third husband, the duo were wed in a quiet ceremony at Burbank City Hall and remained married until Melcher's death in 1968.
1951: Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner
Singer Frank Sinatra and actress Ava Gardner were married on November 7, 1951 – just days after his divorce from previous wife Nancy Barbato was finalised.
The duo were married at a friend's home in Philadelphia, but their marriage was far from peaceful.
The duo were all over the headlines for the huge public brawls, with Sinatra often jealous of Barbato's leading men.
They remained married for six years until Gardner filed for divorce in 1957.
1959: Brigitte Bardot and Jacques Charrier
Brigitte Bardot married actor Jacques Charrier in Louveciennes, France, 1959.
Rumours of their 'secret' wedding leaked and their ceremony ended up being delayed due to reporters waiting outside for the pair to arrive.
1959: Julie Andrews and Tony Walton
Julie Andrews and Tony Walton were engaged 11 years after first meeting.
In Andrews' memoir, she shared that they met as teens in the theatre.
Walton saw her on stage in a performance of Humpty Dumpty when she was 11 and he was 12; he later reached out and they became pen pals.
The duo were engaged 11 years later in 1958 before being married in 1959.
1960: Sammy Davis Jr. and May Britt
Sammy Davis Jr. was married to Swedish actor May Britt in 1960.
The duo were married at Davis' home in Hollywood, California.
